It's so quiet during the day and night, you can sit out on the bench or swing, read and admire the incredible views.

Our two kids loved it too, especially chatting to the horses nearby.

Location is good, you're pretty close to some bigger places like Dumfries and Claire did a great job of recommending some decent beaches and attractions, we had some ideas because we've been up before but something we'd not considered, the lead mine tour ended being one of the most unexpected best days out!

I'll be looking to book again for just the misses and I to escape again later this year.

  The cottage was well equipt, lovely location- Nice and peaceful. Great views and wildlife, we loved the rabbits and red kites. Great base for exploring the Dumfries & Galloway area.

  Croftjane Cottage, located adjacent to a working farm is set in the beautiful surroundings of Nithsdale. It is really peaceful and has great views across the Dale. We... read more were treated to spectacular views of families of swallows circling the cottage as they fed. The property was clean and well equipped and Claire had provided all the essentials in the kitchen and bathrooms. Claire had sent very clear instructions for arrival and it was therefore easy to find, despite its isolated location.
The only issue is the council road to the farm driveway. As Claire warned it is in a poor state and requires concentration to avoid the potholes. The farm driveway itself is in very good condition. There is a lovely cafe in Thornhill, The Thomas Tosh and the local hotel The Buccleuch & Queensberry serves great food. Highly recommended.

Its well off the beaten... read more track but for me was the ideal base for hill walking in the Galloway Forest and Scottish Borders being equidistant between the two areas. The nearby village is a few minutes drive where there are some small shops but its only twenty minutes or so drive from Dundee. Claire's directions were very helpful. I had an excellent stay and would like to says thanks to Claire for providing such pleasant accommodation.

The set up of the house is grand and... read more very close to Drumlanrig Castle, its trails, and not too far from 7-stanes. In the Galloway Part of D&G, Galloway Forest Park dark skies are renowned in a light polluted world.
There is a couple of closeby villages Thornhill (largest with all essential local services) and Penpont (eating). There are nice walks and a coastal drive 50mins south that a local promised me took in some spectacular views . I hope to go back.

There is a lovely space by the side of the Cottage where one can eat on the picnic bench and use the swing seat on a sunny day.
The village of Thornhill is nearby and we liked the shop called Thomas Tosh with gifts, jewellery, books and beautiful stationery.
Also the Chinese restaurant called The Jade Garden for takeaways was lovely food and saved us cooking.
